5 March 2026

The SUS-BIOCROP project (MSCA Doctoral Network) was officially launched on 5 March 2026 with the successful organisation of its online Kick-off Meeting.

Funded by the Horizon Europe programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), SUS-BIOCROP aims to train a new generation of researchers in the development of sustainable biocomposite materials to enhance crop resilience and yield. The project addresses key challenges in agriculture through an interdisciplinary approach combining materials science, biotechnology, and agronomy.

The project is coordinated by Danila Merino (POLYMAT – University of the Basque Country, EHU). The meeting also featured the participation of the Project Officer, Ioanna Tsourva (European Research Executive Agency, REA), who provided guidance on MSCA regulations and project implementation.

The consortium brings together partners from leading academic institutions, including POLYMAT–EHU (Spain), Université libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), Wageningen University (The Netherlands), University of Valladolid (Spain), University of Freiburg (Germany), and Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (Argentina), alongside associated industrial partners Momentive and GreenLight Biosciences.

This Kick-off Meeting marks the beginning of a collaborative effort aimed at developing sustainable solutions for agriculture through advanced materials and international cooperation. Further updates on the progress of SUS-BIOCROP will be shared in due course.
